# If nobody could find it, someone still might

A job that ends without a recovery doesn't have to end the search. The board connects people who lost an item with people who found one.

## What it is

A customer can keep an unfulfilled request as a lost-item listing. Anyone with an account can report an item they found. When a found report matches a listing, Scuber lets the two people talk.

A request can become a listing when it has been open for 14 days or more without a diver, or when it was cancelled or ended as not found without any money released.

**No hostage-taking, no money.** Nobody has to pay anything to use the board, and no money moves through it. Either person can decline, block or walk away at any time.

## How a match works

1. **A finder reports what they found**

   They pick a category, describe the item, add photos and say roughly where it was.

2. **Scuber looks for matches**

   Matches need the same category, and the same body of water or a spot within about 1.2 miles. The owner gets a notification.

3. **The owner checks it**

   The owner compares the finder's description with a private hint they wrote when they listed the item. The hint is only for them, and it is not proof of ownership.

4. **Both accept, then chat**

   The owner accepts first. When the finder accepts too, a private chat opens so they can sort out a handoff.

5. **Marked returned**

   Either person can mark the item returned, and the listing closes.

## Privacy

- You need an account to see or use the board. Guests see nothing.
- Only an approximate area is ever shown, within about 0.3 of a mile of the real spot, never your exact pin.
- Your identity and contact details are never shown to the other person.
- Your private verification hint is only visible to you.
- Declining is silent: the other person is not told. Blocking stops future matches between the two of you.

## Keep it safe

Scuber only connects people. It does not hold, check, ship or verify any item, and it does not verify who owns what. If you choose to meet, meet in a public place, bring a friend if you can, and never share bank or card details. Any handoff is at your own risk. You can flag a listing or report that looks wrong. Listings with several open flags are hidden, and an admin can close anything that breaks the rules.
