How do divers earn on Scuber?

Customers post recovery jobs for items lost in the water. Divers with a reviewed certification send offers, and when a customer accepts, the diver does the recovery and is paid by bank transfer once it is confirmed. The diver receives their price minus a 10% marketplace fee: on a $50.00 job that is $45.00. Scuber does not verify or require insurance.

What you need

You can do these in any order. Your profile is also where you set your units, availability and an optional bio.

  1. A real certification

A diving certification from a recognised agency, such as PADI, NAUI, SSI, SDI, BSAC, CMAS, PSAI, or another agency you tell us about. You upload a photo of your card and the depth on your card. A person at Scuber reviews it, and approval unlocks browsing and bidding.

"Reviewed" means Scuber staff look at your card and run automatic consistency checks. It is not a certification, endorsement or safety guarantee, and Scuber does not certify divers. See Terms, section 3.

  2. Simple payout setup

Payouts are handled by our payout partner, which needs your legal name, date of birth and address. Scuber passes these on to the partner and does not ask for your Social Security number.

  3. A linked bank account

You link your bank with Plaid. That is where your payouts go. You can bid once identity and bank are both done.

How a job works

  1. Step 1 of 5

    Go online and browse

Open jobs show on the map with a price and distance.

Until you are hired, the pin is shown only roughly (about 650 feet off), so a customer's exact spot stays private.

  2. Step 2 of 5

    Send an offer

You send one offer per job and can edit it. The customer sees your price plus Scuber's service fee. Scuber's marketplace fee comes out of your price, and you see what you receive before you send.

If a job is deeper than the depth on your card, the app shows a warning and asks you to confirm you understand the risk. It never decides for you.

    Depth warnings, your call

  3. Step 3 of 5

    Get hired

When a customer accepts, you get a notification, the chat opens and you see the exact pin.

Their payment is already held before you get in the water.

    Exact pin and chat unlock

  4. Step 4 of 5

    Dive and report

Tap "On my way" (live location is shared with the customer for this job only), then "In the water".

Afterwards mark the item recovered with a proof photo, or mark it not found and say what area you searched. You can also log a depth reading.

  5. Step 5 of 5

    Get paid

When the customer confirms, the payment is released to your bank account.

If they do nothing, it is released automatically 48 hours after you mark the item recovered, unless they open a dispute. If the item is not found, you may ask for a search fee; the rest is refunded to the customer.

Fees and payouts

You set your price. Scuber's marketplace fee of 10% comes out of that price, and you see what you will receive before you send an offer. The customer pays your price plus their own Scuber service fee, which does not reduce your payout. Card processing costs are covered from Scuber's share, not yours. Tips, when a customer offers one, go 100% to you; Scuber keeps no fee on tips.

Example: on a $50.00 job, the marketplace fee is $5.00 and you receive $45.00. The customer pays $59.99. See the pricing page for more.

  1. You pay

    $59.99

The $50 offer plus a $9.99 service fee, by card when you accept. Never cash.

  2. Payment held

    $59.99

Held by Scuber's payment partner. Not paid to the diver yet.

  3. Diver receives

    $45

When you confirm, or 48 hours after the diver marks it recovered, unless you open a dispute.

Scuber's fees: the $9.99 service fee you pay on top, and $5 taken from the diver's price. Card processing is paid by Scuber out of its fees.

Cancelled before the dive: full refund of $59.99. Not found: a search fee if agreed, the rest refunded.

Example on a $50 offer, worked out with the same fee math the app uses.

Payouts go to your linked bank account by ACH transfer, which can take 1 to 3 business days to appear. The earnings screen in the app shows what is held, what is releasing and what has been paid.

Insurance is optional

You can add your insurance provider, policy number and expiry to your profile. It is optional, it never blocks you from bidding, and Scuber does not verify it, require it or provide it. Customers only see a plain caption such as "Insurance: DAN (self-reported)". Your policy number and document are never shown.

Rules that protect everyone

  • Dive only when it is safe, with the right training, equipment and permission to be at that location.
  • Keep offers, chat and payment in Scuber. Do not share phone numbers, links or social handles, and do not ask for cash or off-app payment. Repeated attempts lead to removal from Scuber.
  • Divers are independent contractors, not Scuber employees.

Diving carries real risk. Please read the Terms of Service, including the diver safety acknowledgment, the Privacy Policy and the trust and safety page.

Run a dive shop? See the partner program. A shop is paid only when a customer it refers gets a recovery completed, not when its divers take jobs.
