What we do, and what we don't

Scuber is a marketplace. These are the protections built into it, and the limits you should know about.

At a glance

Payment held

Your payment is held through our payment partner until the job is done, then released.

Certification reviewed

Each diver uploads a certification card, and a person at Scuber reviews it before they can bid.

No cash, ever

Every payment goes through Scuber. That is what makes refunds and disputes possible.

Private pins

Your exact pin is never shown publicly. Only the diver you hire sees it.

Payment held until the job is done

When a customer accepts an offer, the payment is processed by Scuber's payment partner and held until the job is done (a conditional payout). Scuber is not a bank or a licensed escrow company. The diver is paid after the customer confirms the recovery, or automatically 48 hours after the diver marks it recovered if there is no dispute. If the item is not found or the job is cancelled before the dive, the customer is refunded.

No cash, ever

All payments go through Scuber, by card, in the app. Held payments, disputes and refunds only work for money that goes through the app, so side deals are not allowed. Scuber filters chat and offer notes for phone numbers, links, social handles and off-app payment requests. A blocked message counts as a strike. Divers are removed after 3 strikes and customers after 5.

Disputes

Either side can open a dispute. The payment is paused, and a Scuber admin reviews the job and decides whether to release the payment or refund it. Scuber reviews disputes in good faith but is not responsible for the outcome of a job.

Divers

  • Every diver uploads a certification card from a recognised agency, and a person at Scuber reviews it before they can browse or bid.
  • Divers verify their identity and link a bank account before they can bid.
  • Reviews go both ways. They are hidden until both sides have written one, or 14 days pass.

What does "reviewed" mean? Scuber staff look at the certification card a diver uploads and run automatic consistency checks on it. This is not a certification, endorsement or safety guarantee. Scuber does not certify divers or vouch for their skill, fitness or safety. See Terms of Service, section 3.

What we do not verify: we do not verify or require dive insurance. Any insurance a diver lists is self-reported and is shown that way. We do not check a diver's skill beyond the certification, and we cannot promise that any diver is available or successful.

Your privacy and your pin

  • Your exact pin is never shown publicly.
  • Divers see a job's location only roughly until one is hired. Only the hired diver sees the exact pin.
  • A diver can share live location with you during an active job. It is optional and for that job only.
  • On the lost and found board only an approximate area appears, never your identity or contact details.
  • No cookies and no trackers on this website.

See the Privacy Policy.

Scuber is a marketplace and holds no liability

Scuber connects customers with independent divers and handles payment. It does not dive, does not employ or supervise divers, and is not a party to the agreement between a customer and a diver. Underwater work is dangerous: every dive is at the diver's own risk. To the extent the law allows, neither Scuber, nor divers, nor customers are liable to each other for loss, injury, damage or a failed recovery. Nobody can promise that an item will be found.

This is a plain-language summary. The Terms of Service are the actual rules, and the Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.

Report a problem

In the app you can report the other person on a job. For help, see the support page or write to support@getscuber.com. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number. Scuber is not an emergency service.
